There are important upcoming changes to the 2026 Sheep and Goat Annual Inventory, a compulsory survey that every business must complete. It also aids LFASS calculations, so it is in everyone’s interests to complete this.

Key Dates

The form will be issued in early December and must be completed by 31st December 2026.

What’s changing this year

In previous years, we have been able to assist with this process using a simple link issued per business through ScotEID, making submission straightforward. From this year, however, the process is becoming much stricter and must be completed through the main ScotEID website to support traceability. This means all businesses will need to be registered with ScotEID and listed on the site as carrying sheep in order to submit their response this December.

Submitting on your behalf

At present, only the main business/keeper can submit the sheep census. However, the Scottish Government is looking into enabling agents to submit this information using client logins. If you’re setting up an account or making changes in the meantime, we would recommend adding us as an agent, in the hope this facility goes live in time for this year’s census.

Registering with ScotEID

If you are not yet registered with ScotEID, or if you’d like our help submitting your census, please get in touch.
